[NVIDIA] GTX570 cant find screens

Hi all,

Been fiddling about trying to get my new graphics card to work.
Had a GTX460 previously and upgraded to a Gainward GTX570 GLH.
Running arch x64, very latest of everything.
upgraded using pacman -Syu, re-ran nvidia-xconfig: x wouldnt start "no screens" or some such,
so I tried uninstalling and re-installing it, I even tried getting it off the website (latest) and building it by hand.

So my question is this, is this me being a 'tard or is there no support yet for this card?

Thanks all!

Regards,

Mike.

EDIT: I'm forced to use windows for the moment!! Wheres my native ssh?! *le sigh* Feel for me smile....

Re: [NVIDIA] GTX570 cant find screens

Just to make sure, you ran "sudo nvidia-xconfig", so it would overwrite the old config and not drop it in your home directory?

Have you tried no xorg.conf?

If neither of those work, you may wish to check that you don't have any parts of nouveau installed. I think they conflict, but I'm not sure.

If all of that fails, post your xorg.conf in [ code ] tags.

You should be able to use the Arch packages just fine. I have a GTX 580, and it works perfectly. I don't think your card is any newer than mine, but I'm not sure.

Edit: Oh hey, I just looked, and I'm using the beta drivers from AUR. So, if none of the above works, check those out smile

what was the package name? I can't seem to find them.

Annoyingly also I cant build them from the nvidia website because my kernel is gcc 6.bla.bla and I have gcc version 5.yah.de.yah...

nvidia-beta and nvidia-utils-beta. Both seem to be marked outdated, but the should work, I think. Also note, you must have nvidia-utils-beta installed to make nvidia-beta.

Those really are outdated. A new non-beta driver is out, 270.41.03. It's in [extra] already.

@DrMikeDuke: Running nvidia-xconfig creates an outdated xorg.conf, remove it. You don't need to do anything, the nvidia-utils package has installed a xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf for you, that's all that's necessary.

Re: [NVIDIA] GTX570 cant find screens

thanks for all the advice guys.
Seems like I have conflicting drivers/utilities so I guess il just go cook up some elaborate string to search out and nuke it all and start fresh without an xorg.

I'll let you know how it goes smile
