SOLVED Configuring CUPS for Brother HL-4040CN - Help required!(x86-64)

Hi all,

I have a Brother HL-4040CN colour laser printer and have it on my network.  So far I have configured CUPS using lpd://10.0.0.20/ and I can print most text but images only using GIMP-Gutenprint and Gwenview.
If I print from any other application then I recieve a variety of errors, mostly the 'Print Unable E1' but also memory and PCL XL errors.

I have installed the packages for the 4040cn from the AUR but nothing seems to have changed.

Can anyone please help me to set this up correctly before the wife goes mad about a new printer we cannot use!

Thanks in advance,

Diesel1.

EDIT: I tried 'lpr -PBrother-HL4040CN someimage.jpg' and it printed the image (albeit centred on the page and tiny).

Hi all,

I am getting nowhere fast with this printer issue.  Does anyone actually run a 4040CN or know of anyone using one?

All help would be appreciated, I must get this going or I might have to look at a different OS. sad

Re: SOLVED Configuring CUPS for Brother HL-4040CN - Help required!(x86-64)

Hi all,

Well I put 512mb ram in the printer and that has solved many of the errors I was having.

I still cannot print from okular.  I am slowly checking other applications as I use them.

Any advice is still welcome.

EDIT: I cannot print from any KDE app.  It seems I will visit the KDE forums.

EDIT: Solved with AUR packages.

Can you post details about how you managed to solve your problem? I'm having the same one you are.
