This is 5x13, a condensed pixel font built on 6x13 ("fixed").
The goal is to create a well readable font that is only five pixels
wide, such that you can fit four 80-chars wide shells next to each
other on a 1600x1200 display. 5x13 is special in being pretty tall,
which greatly increases readability.
Inspirations in order of importance:
* -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1
* artwiz-aleczapka lime
* Rotis Grotesk
This font is, like 6x13, in the public domain.

Wow, that's surprisingly readable, even on a high DPI laptop screen. Good job!
Running Arch on a Dell Studio 1735. xmonad FTW! Dotfiles here.

Excellent! I consider your font really smart indeed, I hope that AUR will spread the word

I'm afraid I am unclear on how to use this. I have installed the font from AUR, "/usr/share/fonts/misc" is in my font path, and yet it does not appear to show up in xlsfonts or xfontsel. What am I missing?

Have you tried
xset fp rehash

I have tried that as a user and via sudo, and logged out of X and logged back in, but I still do not see '5x13' in the output of xlsfonts, which I presume I should.
I also just ran 'mkfontdir' and 'mkfontscale' and 'fc-cache -f -v' fr good measure, logged out of X and logged back in, and still do not see 5x13 in the output of xlsfonts.

Well, here 5x13 appears as 'Fixed [chris2]' on Gambas 3, but doesn't appear at all on Sakura, Firefox and LibreOffice, for example.
Kinda weird.

Thanks. That helped me find it. I was looking for the font under the wrong name.
I imagine it would not show up under Sakura et al because it is not a FreeType/TrueType/Xft font. I believe it is a X11 core font only.

To use it with Xft, you can copy the .bdf to your ~/.fonts, run fc-rehash and use "Fixed:foundry=chris2" as name.

fc-rehash? I don't get it, and there are only 8 results on google. And yes, this topic is one of those

Maybe he was meaning "fc-cache".
