My laptop does not shutdown

When I `halt` it, it gets stuck at the end ("Power off." or something like that), and I have to shut it down by hand.

It's a Compaq 610, I've tried 2.6.37 and 2.6.38 and it doesn't work in any of them.

Re: My laptop does not shutdown

Did you try "shutdown -h now" instead of "halt"?

Philosophy is looking for a black cat in a dark room. Metaphysics is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there. Religion is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there and shouting "I found it!". Science is looking for a black cat in a dark room with a flashlight.

Same problem here. There's another topic about this somewhere, so far it's not been solved. sad

Nop, what's the difference?

I use to shut it down using the KDE's menu, though.

Re: My laptop does not shutdown

I had the same problem, and I found out that I had kdm in daemons array in /etc/rc.conf and I started kdm from /etc/inittab simultaneously.
So I remove it from the daemons in /etc/rc.conf and the problem was solved. Have you got by chance the same configuration?

Nope, I have it in rc.conf only

Re: My laptop does not shutdown

I have the same issue on my laptop but only with the 2.6.38-2 kernel, not any of the older ones. It hangs up when it should reboot/shutdown. It's mildly annoying and I'd like to help get it fixed but none of the standard logs show anything out of the ordinary and I don't know how to do any advanced log gathering that could be of further help.

Re: My laptop does not shutdown

This seems like a long shot but I had the same problem (not KDE related) after the .38 upgrade.

It seems that I had a script running in /etc/rc.local.shutdown as an attempt to turn on my graphics card. I was messing around with it and forgot to remove it but only noticed problems after the .38 upgrade.

I haven't made any customizations like that. It just started happening. I wish I knew what the trigger was. This is one of three problems that keep me from using Arch on my laptop. I know it's a minimal issue, but the smaller issues bug me the most sad
