i can proudly say that now since its been 6 months im windows free and been hopping to one distro n another, to find archlinux was just like a dream come true. i came from ubuntu, gentoo, fedora, opensuse, sabayon then back to arch maybe because of the kdemod that they had.... but at the same time, i was looking for something more like ubuntu ease of use with its apt-get package management since it is proven n known community wise ubuntu is best for beginners. just after a while, found out sidux linux. it is much faster than ubuntu but i couldnt compare it to arch because right after a fresh install, used a script called 'smxi' which supposedly automate a lot of downloading and configuring of the system which just render it somehow cumbersome not usable X not starting and gota go back to manual configuring. couldnt be the best linux distro if it doesnt get ur hands wet learning the system doesnt it? plus comparison wouldnt be at par since sidux was i686 and packages was i486 optimized. anyways, im back to archlinux simply because it is the best ever linux distribution ive tried so far. the simplicity of having all configuration file lined up and excellent wiki postings with a lot of activity in the forum made it all clear without digging too much. package management also the best with pacman and this script called 'yaourt' which cut ur time learning the ABS way by just installing what u need from the unstable/bleeding edge repo. i think it would be the next best thing for beginners and experts alike since linux is not about UBUNTU which is slow. but its about having control of the system the GNU/Linux the easy way..... and maybe since its hands-on D-I-Y style, it wouldnt hurt if we make couple of GUI enhanced scripts to automate processes like 'pacman -Syu' or even pacman itself, check for updates and stuff, right? so then we could be the next ubuntu.............
i can sense that coming especially for those running ubuntu now which is still i386. anyways, the AUR/ABS needs some kind of strip down elaboration i think for noobs to catch on to what the heck its meant for.... when i changed to sidux its all because i felt its damn difficult AUR/ABS (what the heck)... then now, just realized its just a cooler way to keep all system packages in one place rather just doing simple ./configure, make ,make install n let defaults take over.........
anyways, this is my first post. just wana reach out to the world and hopefuly google tags this as "best linux distro".....
build d chain, spread arch linux....

You can always write a few bash scripts to automate (or at least have them assist you during) the configuration. I myself don't know enough bash to make it do everything, but have written a few things like echoing aliases to my .bashrc, or installing packages, and backing up / restoring fonts. I know it's not much, but it's totally custom and it helps a lot.
