Shutdown on tty1 instead of tty6?

Hey,

When I reboot/shutdown my system, Xfce desktop gets closed and tty1 is being showed. However, all the shutdown procedures ( that colored list, I don't know how to call it ) is being executed on tty6. So, if I want to see all those messages during reboot/shutdown procedure, I have to switch back to tty6. Is it possible to set tty1 to show those messages?

In case it's of interest, this is a tricky issue in Fedora also.

Re: Shutdown on tty1 instead of tty6?

My workaround is

chvt 1 && reboot

for reboot. This switches to vt1 and invokes reboot thereafter. Shutdown works similarly.

You don't see X shutting down, but I don't care about that.

Re: Shutdown on tty1 instead of tty6?

I got one better, super clean!

added the following to my /etc/rc.shutdown

/usr/bin/chvt 1
clear

just before

run_hook shutdown_start

EDIT: it seems this is still hit & miss

Re: Shutdown on tty1 instead of tty6?

edited my inittab for tty1

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Di … t_Messages

kept 'clear' in my rc.shutdown too, so the boot and halt messages dont run together.

Seems like a good solution. The thread IS 2 years old though, so I'll close it now. If anyone has anything to add that is very specifically on-topic here, message a mod to re-open. Otherwise, start a new thread.
