Hello originalsurfmex!
Did you try to use cheese from extra repository or from AUR ? How is your audio/video settings that's related ? Which driver/kernel do you use ? Did it work earlier, or is it your first trying ? did you try it under other distribution ?

im using x86_64 kernel from arch, everything is standard.
cheese works just fine, its just that i cant turn on effects when im already chatting in skype. in windows its possible to turn on skype with video and then another program to add effects, and the effects appear during your video chat.
however when i am video chatting on skype, none of my other programs can access the webcam. i haven't been able to do this on any linux distribution.

Okay, Did you try to access to this webcam more than one application while not using skype? Or maybe you can consult the author of the driver too.

Have you read this wiki?

thanks for the info so far. yes i did check the wiki and i have done everything except the bashrc edits.
i cant run the webcam simutaneously with any other program. for example cheese and webcamstudio will not read the camera at the same time. any other advice other than contact the driver's authors?
i use the hp tx2000 and my webcam is listed as "HP WEBCAM"

Cheese would need to be able to capture the webcam and present some sort of v4l software device to skype. I'm not sure if that is possible.

ok, thanks. so i guess its not possible for a normal user at this point. thats too bad.

Any news with this? I'm using libwebcam, and when I use guvcview --control_only I have the basic brightness control while using skype (but I'd like affects and the other controls (like recording, effects, and the other stuff guvcview has when I'm not using --control_only).
