[SOLVED] wicd vs LXDE Compiz

Hey guys,
When using openbox + LXDE, my wicd worked just fine. I had a lot of annoying problems with my little cairo-dock with it having a black box around it. Tried some fixes but none of them ended up working. So I decided I'd give into my Ubuntu days and try out Compiz again. Personally, I don't mind using the terminal for network solutions, but I have some friends and my girlfriend are more used to windows. I need to somehow get wicd running on Compiz!

From what I've seen online, the two just seem to hate each other. I have everything installed and wicd appears in my applications. Starting it just does nothing. What do I have to do to get wicd to start up with Compiz? It's running as a daemon as well.

[jake@JakePC ~]$ wicd
Root privileges are required for the daemon to run properly.  Exiting.
[jake@JakePC ~]$ su
Password:
[root@JakePC jake]# wicd
[root@JakePC jake]#

You mean like that? That's my output. Nothing shows up, either. :x

Are you sure you're not trying to run wicd-gtk? wicd is just the daemon.

I like pie. Especially with a side of Arch.

I actually just realized I did something fairly dumb with my system tray and it was there, but wasn't for me (I tried replacing it with something else for beauty, but it didn't work for wicd!). I dun goofed.

Thanks for the help!

Looks like you've solved this, but you tried cairo-compmgr?  If Compiz isn't your first choice, then cairo-compmgr will give you basic compositing effects (transparency, shadows and fading windows).  Works fine with my OpenBox setup.
