Very good, positive and interesting tutorial in Linux Format magazine.

Hi all,

The latest Linux Format Magazine has a four page tutorial/review/installation guide.  It is almost universally positive.

Shashank Sharma, the contributing journalist, seems to have really been bitten by pacman and the rolling release system.  To quote Shashank "Pacman is on a par with the best package management tools around, if not better".

The whole article is positive even when stating that Arch is not particularly suitable for instant users who just want to install and use facebook, but very good for those who are willing to read a little and create a system tailored to their needs.

I imagine the http://www.distrowatch.com ranking will shoot up!

All the best,

Diesel1.

Perhaps. Not entirely a good thing, though. These 'tutorial/review/installation guide' stuff pages work for Ubuntu, but would just confuse a beginning Arch user. That's why we have the Beginner's Guide after all.

Good reviews in respectable media is generally a good thing, though. Can't comment much as I don't have a subscription myself smile.

At least it's Linux Format (and not lifehacker again... ). It's a pretty expensive magazine and most readers would have to be fairly serious Linux users for a subscription to be worth the price.

Issue 145, June 2011
Just hot off the press - I'm a subscriber so it may not even have hit the newsagents yet.

PS: I had some correspondence with the previous Editor a year or so ago and suggested Arch might merit a bit more coverage and he agreed!
