M4A89GTD PRO MotherBoard Advices

Hey Guys,
I am new here but I used Arch since 3 months and I used Chakra Linux when it was based on Arch too.
I post a topic because I would like to buy a new computer but I am a bit confused about the motherboard. In fact, I want to buy a Phenom II X4 955 but I have some doubts about my mobo under GNU/Linux.
I will buy an Asus model, and I found this model: M4A89GTD PRO (AM3 based). It seems that this one is really well supported on Debian for example (saw on forums and sites). So if you're using it under Arch, please confirm it works good or not.
For example, I really need audio chipset working on it.

And for the others, if you know a mobo Intel based for an Intel Core I3 / I5 by Asus, you can tell me. It could be very useful. I hesitate between AMD and Intel.

Thanks.
Cheers!

Re: M4A89GTD PRO MotherBoard Advices

1) Both Debian and Arch uses linux kernel in which drivers is included.
So if it works for Debian, it should work for Arch also (though graphics is another problem).
2) My personal point of view:
When I use linux, 95% of the time, the cpu usage stay low at ~ 3% - 20%. So I say a fast CPU is a waste of money.
I would buy a cheaper (but decent) CPU and spend the money I saved on a better graphics card (which is pretty lacking since I have only onboard graphics).

Re: M4A89GTD PRO MotherBoard Advices

Well, I think game won't depend much on cpu, a phenom should work fine. A fast cpu won't make much of a different on game, graphics card make a huge change though. With compilation, multi cores cpu is not really necessary unless you usually compile more than one softwares at once.
So if you don't really need an intel CPU, go for what cheaper big_smile.
Also, gaming without a big screen is a waste, get a Full HD 1080p screen while you're at it (never got one sad ).

PS: Got a Phenom II before, It works fine, can't find anything to complains except I don't have a decent graphics card to play games sad.
Now I got stuck with a Core i3 350M with integrated graphics too.

Yeah indeed. I plan to buy a Nvidia GTX460 and I have already a FullHD screen big_smile

With your Phenom, what chipset are you using?
