Hi all,
I'm strating to use e17...seems to be awesome!
I configured everything but conky! It was working perfectly on fluxbox but in e17 i got an error:
Conky: desktop window (a00007) is subwindow of root window (13b)
Conky: window type - override
Conky: drawing to created window (0x2e00001)
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
Serial number of failed request: 285
Current serial number in output stream: 288
What does it mean?
Thanks in advance!

E17 doesn't use the root window for it's background, it's actually an EDJE file. Conky simply can't draw on it. There are solutions if you search around.

what could I use to perform the same work conky does?

You can use conky, but just not how you're use to doing it. I think that the solution that most people are using is a transparent, borderless terminal.
Offline
Can't you just use "own_window" ?
Offline
yes...but i'm not able to see the wallpaper in the background! I'm seeing the kdm background (kdm is the default login manager) It looks very bad!
Offline
I'm trying to modify a copy of the default file in /etc/xdg/conky/conky.conf...Let see if I can...
basically it creates a window for conky...
Offline
ok, using the default file...looks better, but i don't know how to use conky inside a terminal (transparent, borderless terminal). I know there are terminals that can be transparent and bordless, but How to execute conky inside them? Maybe it's a stupid question and I've not been able to find anything useful. I'll appreciate your suggestion.
Thanks

I'm probably getting things screwed up here. It's been about 2.5 years since I've even thought about conky and E17. Maybe ignoring what I said about the terminal will save you some headaches.
One thing that you can do is use something like feh to set the root window the same as your E17 background image. Then if you use own_window the background will be correct.

Hi Folks,
I am running conky 1.8.1 on both e17 (16.999.57375) and KDE 4.5.11 on different boxes each with true transparency. I.e.; you don't need Esetroot, feh, etc. To make conk truely transparent you need a composite running and have the following in .conkyrc
own_window yes
# ARGB can be used for real transparency, note that a composite manager is required for real transparency
own_window_argb_visual true
# Set the transparency alpha value from 0 to 255
own_window_argb_value 0
own_window_type desktop
See http://conky.sourceforge.net/config_settings.html
Good luck,
Don
