My issue seems similar to

The symptomes are the same: A black screen, laptop doesn't even react to the sysrq keys, fans are going faster than usual.
I have an Acer 7741G with i5 480m and radeon 6550m (renamed hd 5650) with catalyst-test (but it also happened with "stable" catalyst).
A difference is that I don't have it every time, it often works well as expected. Though it is quite often that it doesn't and it is really annoying (how can the gnome 3 people possibly think it is a good idea to have everyone suspend when there are still issues like this?).
Anither difference is that I don't have the intel_idle module loaded so passing it the max_cstate parameter won't help. I can test with nolapic_timer but I really don't want to give up anything in power saving.
I do use cpufreq with the ondemand setting and it works quite well.
I had this problem with 2.6.38 and now tried 2.6.39-rc4 but it still happens.
I would like to try with Hyper Threading disabled but the BIOS isn't really helpful as it seems to have most of the useful settings removed.
pm-suspend.log doesn't say anything except for succesfully suspended.
everything.log doesn't have a single entry from the time of the failed resume so there seems to be a lockup in an early state.
So if it is not coming from intel_idle what can I do about it?
Do other laptops have a same problem and if yes, what do I have in common with them?

I did try nolapic_timer but I didn't really test if it happens because power consumption of the notebook goes from < 15 to ~ 25 Watt. This is a much too big hit to tolerate.
As I understand that "intel_idle" is not a normal module I tried intel_idle.max_cstate=3 but it doesn't help.
I have no statistics but I would roughly say 3/4 of the resumes fail, 1/4 works.

I have a feeling that not every black screen has the same cause.
Now I have waited some time with the black screen and the laptop certainly responds to usb and lan connections, as I see the hard disk working when connecting/disconnecting. Even the syslog got written and as I secretely thought the damned fglrx seems to fuck up just again:

Here is the full log from this failed wakeup. I got no response from trying to change to a tty and logging in/rebooting "blindly" with the keyboard, but sysrq did work... Probably the keyboard input was caught by X.

Just had another failed wakeup. This time again the laptop didn't respond to anything. No visible hard disk activity at all, sysrq didn't work and it didn't get an IP from the dhcp server. Logs don't have a single entry from the time of the failed wakeup.
So maybe I suffer not from one bug but from two independently? The intel bug AND an fglrx bug? I still boot with "intel_idle.max_cstate=3", it has absolutely no effect on the buggy behaviour.
