hey, i'm new to arch, and whenever a window is too large, all i get is a black screen, showing only the window manager.

Moderator -- Sorry, I've no suggestions. Your post, however, violates this for both pixel size (which I usually ignore) and file size (which I don't) As this is your first post, I'll leave it alone In the future, it is far better to have the image tags point to a thumbnail, and wrap the img tags with url tags pointing to the full image. Your friends on low bandwidth connections and smart phones will thank you.

Try disabling direct rendering (in system settings - desktop effects - advanced). This however will also disable certain destop effects.
