X erratically jumps to 100% CPU (open source radeon driver)

Within the last week or two, X started jumping to 100% of one CPU core every now and then.  I haven't been able to figure out exactly what causes it, but it generally seems to be triggered by starting another program (Flash, OpenGL benchmark, StarCraft 2, and others).  The desktop is still responsive (mouse, keyboard and video all working without problems), but I lose the ability to switch to a text console, so I haven't been able to attach to X with a debugger and find out where it is getting stuck.  The only way to fix it seems to be to reboot.  This is happening about once a day and getting very annoying.  Any ideas?

Check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file after this happens. Anything obvious there?

Okay, I'll look the next time it happens.

Well, I haven't seen this for a few days; I guess an update fixed it.

Or not.  Just happened again.  Nothing printed in the X log.  Going to see if I can manage to get a core dump.
