Experience with Grub 0.97-->2 upgrade

Hi,
I'm currently with a dual boot Arch_64+KDE/Win7 system on a BIOS PC, using GRUB 0.97.
Trying to install multisystem, I've found (dependencies) that I'll have to upgrade my PC to GRUB 2 first.
My questions for those who have made such an upgrade:
*  Currently (GRUB 0.97) every time I upgrade a new kernel (with pacman) it naturally reconfigures GRUB as well. Is pacman "intelligent" enough to do the same with GRUB 2 as well?
*  Have you suffered any problems after the upgrade?
*  Any additional recommendations?
