When I execute "startx" I get two (EE) that the modules "vesa" and "fbdev" because they don't exist. Is this a problematic error? X still runs. I have the xf86-video-intel driver installed.

vesa is another driver (basically a fallback), which you don't need if you're using intel. I think fbdev is a driver also. So if everything seems to be working I wouldn't worry about it.

All right, thank you. Maybe I'll wait a bit to add "[SOLVED]" to the title just in case there are second opinions?

My opinion is that this is solved as well. Vesa is the most generic video driver that should work on every card. But because of this, it can't take advantage of any card-specific features and suffers in performance. I think fbdev used to be needed to run X on top of a framebuffer console but with the advent of KMS it is pretty much useless.

Great things come in tar.xz packages.

The packages are xf86-video-fbdev and xf86-video-vesa if you want to install them

Thank you all for your useful information. I'm still a little perplexed--since X is obviously recognizing my Intel package, why does it still want vesa and fbdev?--but it's good to know that I need not worry.

It seems to want these on almost every system, regardless of otherwise installed graphical drivers. Perhaps there isn't enough interaction between udev xorg.
Nothing to worry about though
