System Crashes while torrenting and unable to burn with GNOME 3

I'm running Arch + GNOME 3 and I'm loving it!
Only had two problems with it:

1) When I'm downloading a torrent with transmission and doing something else simultaneously, my system will freeze and I have to do a hard restart.
    This doesn't happen when transmission is running alone.
    Also, I'm using EXT3 if that matters, it doesn't happen on my other arch machine with EXT4 and OpenBox. Could GNOME be the issue here?

2) I can't burn a CD with brasero. It freezes on 'getting started'. Do you guys recommend any other burning utilities?

I know GNOME 3 is still in the works, but I thought there might be a workaround.
