Just out of curiosity, have any of you [KDE users] experienced this issue with the sound being muted right after launching KDE after yesterday's system update - including kernel .38?
I woke up this morning and found sound is proactively being muted after launching KDE: for example I have MOC (music on console) playing a tune and when I launch KDE (xinit) the sound is completely muted. I already checked alsamixer, KMix and KDE-specific system options and everything is how it is supposed to be so I'm a bit lost here... I even tried renaming ~/.kde4 directory with no luck =/
The strange thing is this don't happen with Awesome or any other DE/WM I have tried so this is straight linked to KDE; I will make a new user when I have a bit more time and look what happens, in the meantime if you have any idea please share it!
Cheers

I had a similar problem and I installed pulseaudio instead of Phonon. Now pulseaudio is my default output in all programs and everything works fine.

Sounds like you have your sessions settings stored somewhere and it "mutes" the output everytime you login

Hi guys, thanks for your time.
@soltis: is pulseaudio working fine with KDE? Awesome, I'll check that this weekend, thanks for the tip.
@Damnshock: Probably, but I *didn't* do that manually :/
Anyways, everything is working fine again without me doing anything - that sucks to don't know what happened, the logic behind that, but at least things are ok now.
Best.
