Hey,
My name's Jake and I've used Ubuntu/Kubuntu a little bit throughout the years. Exclusively using Arch + LXDE now and I definitely have a few questions about it. Started with openbox, now trying out Compiz. Enjoyed XFCE4 for a while.
Arch is pretty fun though.

Well Hello There!
I'm very early in my Arch experience (haven't even got a GUI up yet) but I'm sure I will have questions to ask soon enough, so thought why wait?
Why Arch? I'm currently running Gentoo on a number of boxes, but one of them is a senior citizen now (2003 vintage) and gets tired with all the compiling. So I asked Gentoo users the simple question: "What distro is best for a Gentoo user that doesn't want to compile stuff any more?" The response was (nearly) unanimous, so it's clear Arch has a lot of friends in Gentoo-land!
I've lurked these forums a bit in the past: my new primary machine is a Samsung NC10 netbook, and Arch's uber-thread about this machine is a must-read on the subject, so I must say thanks before I've even asked anything
My install has gone pretty well so far (the installer is very well-thought-out) and I'm looking forward to seeing how well Arch scores on those bits of hardware that cause headaches in other distros (Intel 855GM graphics, Atheros wifi card). Bring it on!
About my background: I've used Linux since 2004, starting with Mandrake (yes, Mandrake, at that time) through Gentoo and a bit of Kubuntu, with many others through liveCDs and VMs. I'm pretty handy with Apache, PHP and a few other random things, so I hope to give as much as I get out of being here.
Be seeing you

Hi Everyone,
My name is David and i've only had Arch for a day but im loving it. This is the first time i've used Linux at all as a desktop system (previous OS was windows) but the install has been pretty simple, thanks to the Arch wiki.
I've got Gnome3 up and running along with a few other programs (spotify, firefox, transmission, eclipse,...). Arch has far exceeded my expectations and i hope to use it for a long time.
My System is an Intel i3 2100, 1TB hard drive, 4GB Memory and im using the intel integrated graphics for display output.
About me: Im a software developer for a telecoms company and mostly use windows machines while at work but im trying to change this lol. I have experience with Java, T-SQL, Apache, Apache Wicket and some other bits and pieces.
Loving Arch!!! cya around.

Hi Everyone.
I just signed up here. I'm excited to learn about Arch and I hope I will be able to use it successfully for a long time. Although the reason I came to the BBS is because I'm having a problem! :S
I've been using linux off and on since about 1996. Recently I've been using ubuntu because it's just so easy to setup and use. Although I think it makes you a bit soft. That's why I'm hoping to switch over to Arch for the time being.

I couldn't spot an Introduction board so I guess this is a good a place as any. I've just finished my install of Arch along with GNOME and a few extras (just got Steam up and running) - feeling quite proud of myself too! (coming from someone who has only dabbled with Ubuntu before). I must say that the Wiki is absolutely brilliant and was very informative through every step of the process answering every concern which arose during the procedure; I think I only had to check the forums once for a problem about twm starting instead of metacity - but this was because I didn't have GDM installed.
So yes, hello to everyone and I hope to spend a bit more time around here
Regards,
Mike

Hi folks!
My name is Johnny. I'm kinda new to Linux, tried a bit of BSD but it didn't work well as desktop Also tried Ubuntu long time ago but I thought it was bloated. I'm using the awesome wm now and I think Arch is very slick and fast system! Other things I like and tries to get good in is vim and LaTeX.
Happy hacking

Hello,
Window crashed and was full of virii. I installed some linux distro's then, and settled with Arch Linux.
I like the Wiki!

After using Ubuntu for 1 1/2 years I switched to Arch today.
Hi Arch community!

Likewise,
After using Ubuntu for all most 2 years, I switched to Arch.
I changed jobs recently, and several coworkers recommended it. I have a complete Gnome 3 w/ Gnome Shell desktop in less than 4 hours. Much, much easier to get working than Ubuntu, and a lot faster and less painful than compiling Gentoo from scratch on a desktop.

Hello! I'm another new user from Ubuntu, although I have have used Knoppix. I used the command line frequently, so when I found out about Arch, I installed at the nearest opportunity (a broken hard drive). I hope to learn more about the mystery of GNU/Linux by using Arch, and so far it's lookin' good.
Huh, that actually worked. Neat-o.

Hello, Everyone!
I just got GNOME up and running in Arch right now. I started using Linux about two years ago when I was taking my first programming class. Since I'm a computer science major at a university, I can't get enough of the excellent software development tools that are all native to Linux, and how intuitive and transparent Linux is. I started out with Fedora, which really is nice, but also kind of bulky, and I decided I wanted to give something a bit more lightweight a shot. I've heard countless good things about Arch and I'm excited to see them firsthand!
Cheers,
James, USA

Hello
I've actually installed arch about four monthes ago. But today is the day I'm starting to read the forum. I've been running Ubuntu and Linux Mint for about a year ago. One of my friends kept blabbing about how great arch was and slowly I began to get frustrated with all the crab, that was pre-installed in Ubuntu and Mint. Now I just love Arch Linux!

Hi there,
I'm sure you've heard it all before in the previous ~63 pages, but I just wanted to say that I'm blown away with how wonderful my experience with Arch has been.
I've been using Ubuntu/Mint on and off for the last 6 months or so in an attempt to convert myself to Linux. I'm mostly converted, but still frustrated at being a noob! I consider myself a Windows "power-user" so coming over to Linux feels very alien.
Whilst Linux Mint is lovely and easy to setup, I felt that it just wasn't a good way to learn about Linux. I heard lots of good things about Arch around the web and decided to give it a try lastnight.
I opened the Unofficial Beginner's Guide, created a new VM and began my foray into text-based installation. Was I nervous? Yes. Need I have been? No.
I cannot even begin to describe how impressed I am with the Beginner's Guide. I've learnt more about Linux in the hour it took me to install Arch that I have in the last 6 months!
This morning, I bit the bullet and decided to overwrite my Linux Mint installation with Arch. An hour later, I'm posting here from Firefox running in GNOME3 using my wireless connection. It was actually easier to get it all setup than it was in Mint. And the speed? Well, you know the answer to that.
Many many thanks for such a wonderful distro with such fantastic documentation.
Here's hoping I get the time to contribute my development skills to the project one day in the future.

Hi,
I have been using Arch exclusively for a little more than half a year; so I am a not-so-fresh newbie.
I love it, and I want to thank every one (that is, you :-)) for making it even better.
The opening paragraph of my installation notes (http://www.cs.iupui.edu/~pengw/writing/arch-setup.html) half a year ago has spelled out pretty much the reasons I migrated to Arch. One thing I want to add is the community (that is, the people), which adds a bit of humanity to it; after all, it is about the people:-)
Greetings from pw.

Hello Archlinux forum. I started with Ubuntu 7 a long time ago when I was still an adolescent, and have been using crunchbang linux the last couple of years. I've become fairly comfortable with the command line and obtained a lot of general linux knowledge since then. I tried installing gentoo on my laptop when I first purchased it for school a couple years back (lenovo g530 rev 4151) and didn't have much success getting a WM to load. (Now I know that the problem was that I didn't actually tell the computer to start gdm correctly.) I'm going to be starting an internship as a unix administrator soon so I decided to get an mushkin calisto 120gb SSD for my laptop, and I figured if I'm going to leave the debian stable base I've grown so comfortable with (I don't think the debian stable kernel supports TRIM) I might as well have a bleeding edge distro to go with my bleeding edge hard drive! I'll be installing sometime next week so I'm sure I'll see you guys around in the newbie corner. Looking forward to using Arch and becoming a part of your guys' community

Hi everyone!
I started on Linux world back at 2008 with ubuntu, and moved to arch at early 2009... I have used the info from the forum many times but never really had to join, but lately i've been reading more and more topics and felt it was time to join the discussions, so, again, hi everyone!
