Re: Plymouth issue.

Go to the "plymouth" wiki page. It is addressed there.

Re: Plymouth issue.

Didn't eliminate it for me either, but thought the knowledge that it was addressed might help. Switching to tty1 and back clears it for me, too. Thanks.

Re: Plymouth issue.

Yes. nVidia version 270.XX.XX, whatever is currently in the repos and the ones before that also I used.

Re: Plymouth issue.

I don't really know why I didn't try this before, but I finally got rid of the little black squares with nVidia driver issue. I am using systemd for my init system now and plymouth only shows a splash screen during bootup now and not on shutdown like before (shutdown happens really quick anyway). I put this line "/bin/plymouth quit" in my /etc/rc.local file and have enabled the rc-local.service. Black squares gone. When I tried to use "/bin/plymouth quit --retain splash", it caused my system to hang and not go on to start gdm.

Re: Plymouth issue.

Well... time has passed, and the same error came again. But this time I solved.

Just added the "nv" driver to the black list in /etc/rc.conf

(actually there is no black list, but I added !nv to the modules list)

EDIT: I think that it never got solved, but the error message I had for so long on the splash screen cover it up.
