I have three problems with my Dell Inspiron N4010:
First, when I use some time my network controler (Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000) the PC freeze for a seconds.
Second, I can change the brightness of the monitor (I try the "special" keys, setpci and xbacklight).
Third, xorg don't detect my video controler (it use vesa).

hi, i have exactly the same system you have, but my computer comes with an broadcom4313,
but i bought one atheros module on ebay for some dollars a time ago and in less than 2 days
with my new laptop i opened it to change the wireless card jaja,
for the problem of the wireless i solved it upgrading the networkmanager which is on aur,
i installed:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22349
and
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26516
after of that my wireless work like a charm
i have to say that the problem with the wireless remained with the broadcom and atheros modules
until i upgraded that packages. May be its some problem between the hardware and the old network manager
for the brightness..... im working on it too :S
for the video, i had not problems, i suggest you to reinstall arch (yeah, i know that its booring the wait,
but it can work)
i hope you can solve your problems

i'll try this

yeaah!! the kamal kernel works for the screen brightness
now, if you want the best video performance, install from aur
libgl-git
libdrm-git
xf86-video-intel-git
mesa-git
intel-dri-git
i hope you can make your inspiron work 100%
let me know if you solve it.

Thanks! Now I can change the brightness of the monitor, but... I have problems with netoworkmanager (the testing version and git/aur version), the applet I can't install it, but in gnome3 it show me when I start the deamon a "applet" at top but when I try to connect d-bus gives a "ss" key error (like with caffeine):
** (gnome-control-center:6137): WARNING **: Error in getting active connection 'Vpn' property: (19) Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist
** (gnome-control-center:6137): WARNING **: _nm_object_array_demarshal: couldn't create object for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/3

i installed GNOME3 from testing and i really liked it but.... i think it needs more stability(in my opinion) then i reinstalled gnome2 and installed networkmanager and the applet from aur-git, actually the applet needs to change something in the PKGBUILD to compile correctly if you read the posts in the aur package page you can find the solution
Its good to hear it helps you
sorry for my english
