So i upgraded gnome to the latest (got a fully synced mirror), and everythings working except compressed files. When i right click on a tar/tar.gz/zip file and try and extract, the progress bar comes up, and just hangs forever. However, it works perfectly if i use the command line, or open file roller, then open the compressed file.
Also, is there any program for edge triggers, and something like compiz's Grid plugin? I used to use compiz, and habits die hard...
EDIT: Also, is it possible to switch desktops via mouse scrolling on the desktop (again, like in compiz)?
[FIXED] EDIT EDIT: In nautilus, the delete key does nothing, i have to right click move to trash. [FIXED] - Found out the default keys/how to change (see farther down).

I'm not sure about the first few, but deleting files can be done with Ctrl+Delete. Took me a little bit to get that one.

Anyway to change it?

From the GNOME 3 wiki entry (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … ng_Hotkeys):
Changing Hotkeys
In dconf-editor, enable org.gnome.desktop.interface "can-change-accels".
An example of changing the delete hotkey: Open nautilus, select any file/directory, then click "Edit" from the menubar, and hover over the "Move to Trash" menuitem. While hovering, push delete. The accel should change from "ctrl+del" to "del".
Make sure you have selected a file, else the "Move to Trash" menuitem will be greyed out. You should disable "can-change-accels" afterwards, to prevent accidental accel changes.

I have problems with installing gnome-shell.
error: failed to prepare transaction. (Could not satisfy depencies). Gvfs-afc: requires gvfs=1.6.6
Gnome fallback does not work either. It does not launch programs and stays disconnected from network. Any tips?

Your system is not fully upgraded or its updated from a partially-updated mirror.

caseyjp1: I know I can do that, but i wan't to be able to actually scroll (on the mouse) on the desktop to switch. Also, is it possible to get rid of the giant popup when you switch desktops (the one shows the arrow and which desktop you are on)?

No one knows? Also another question: Is it possible to prevent switching workspaces automatically? Say you are on the second workspace with nautilus opened. When you close it, it automatically goes to the first workspace.

Is this because Gnome now makes that workspace disappear when there aren't any more running programs?

Not neccesarily. If i have just 2 workspaces (which is the minimum), then it still switches to the first if i close the window on the second.

I hope they implement the desktop wheel change.... in the meantime, i just move my mouse up to the top-left and then dash the mouse on over to the pager on the right and wheel up/down on that, then back on up over to the top-left.
It's a bit of mouse movement, but it beats clicking on things.

So for anyone else with the file-roller problem (see first post), turns out it's an issue with easystroke (nautilus terminals launched directly from there suffer the problem). I circumvented this through settings up a shortcut, and having easystroke do that.

It might not be obvious that you can drag the background to change the desktop, which, while not as nice as using the scroll wheel, beats going with the mouse cursor all the way to the other side of the screen for me.

Wow now... I can't seem to do that. Do you mean just click and dragging on the desktop? Up and down?
EDIT: Oh, the overview...

I have the same problem with easystroke (and gnome-terminal), I created a .shortcut directory and did,
ln -s '/usr/bin/nautilus' ~/.shortcut/
and ad ~/.shortcut/nautilus in easystroke but it did not work. Could you explain me what you have done to fix this please ?
[Edit :]
Fixed (thanks to rp181) : I go to the keyboard preferences, and set the shortcuts. Now, easy stroke just sends those keystrokes to launch it.
