I installed arch and had it reboot, and the screen goes black. this is corrected using nomodeset or i915modeset=0 but the resolution is not what I would like it to be nor the same from the installation. I tried setting up KMS and that did not help and startx only works with vesa drivers and doesn't detect my device using intel drivers. the laptop has a intel GMA 4500m I believe. any help would greatly be appreciated. ubuntu does not have this issue out of the box so I know this could be corrected.

I solved this issue by switching to kernel26-lts. it seems there are issues with the current kernel.
