Weird shutdown problem

I've had Arch on this box for close to a year now and wh ile apm never really worked (I always have to shut down by using the power button and it's not an issue), now the problem has gotten stranger.  Last week, I took out my old ATI Rage video card and put in a GeForce4 MX440 PCI card I had laying around.  Now, when I attempt to shut down my machine, even using the power button, I get the following message:

apm: suspend was vetoed.

Anyone ever seen this before? What can be done about it?  Forgot to mention that this box is running a P3-450 on an Abit BE6 mainboard.

TIA smile

Re: Weird shutdown problem

custom kernel?

make sure this is in your kernel config:

# CONFIG_APM_IGNORE_USER_SUSPEND is not set

having that set will give you that error.

Re: Weird shutdown problem

no it's the stock Arch 2.4.22 kernel.  I'm not one for messing under the hood with kernels and such.  And it only started after I switched video cards (may be a red herring, but that's when the problem started)...maybe I should recompile the kernel?  Never done that before...I know it can be done by pacman just not sure how to do it...oh well it's been a while since I hosed my system wink
