My first attempt at modifying a font to add icons for my status bar in dwm kinda sucked. I cut and pasted glyphs that others had drawn into the font (terminus). It worked but I ended up with extra spacing, I guess because the widths were different? I couldn't modify or draw anything with gbdfed, so I tried bdfedit. It's kind of old school but it works well enough and I was able to draw my own and solved the spacing issue. I used others as examples from Lokaltog, boohomil, and synorgy. I copied many of them exactly, changed a few, and a few are original. This time I used Tamsyn8x17. It turned out pretty good and might be worth a look. The size is 17 but it seems smaller than that. It's noticeably smaller than the terminus 14 I was trying to use before (or it appears so). It seems just about right for my eyes. And it's nice. I like it better than anything I have tried except for maybe terminus. Here's a couple screenshots and a link to the font. It's in my configs as well.
edit: I made a better one called terminusmod. It's in the AUR. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49117

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing afterwards. I'll try to change that one or replace it with something else. If there's anything else that should be added just let me know and I'll try to do it. Like for example, it didn't have a degree symbol but I added it in the right place. Just let me know and I'll keep working on it in the meantime.
edit: I changed it and added a few more. I completed the bold too and made a few other small refinements. I think they're good to go now.

Well, it seems to have some issues. I noticed a more pronounced gap in dwm after I switched my terminal font to this. And mc seemed a little sluggish. I think that was because it uses some characters that aren't included in Tamsyn. The sluggishness seems to have gone away after I added the last few icons but it's using those instead. Not sure about the gap. I switched the terminal font back to terminus and everything is fine again. I guess it works ok for dwm but not so much as a terminal font. Oh well. Back to the drawing board. At least I learned a few things. I was kinda liking it but the size is a little weird too. Too much space vertically. I guess thats why it appears smaller than terminus 14. Maybe I'll try to do a different font.
edit: you probably don't want to use this. I made a better one called terminusmod. It's in the AUR.
