The new driver is out:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp … -7664.html
I have updated it using nvidia-installer --update and it seems to work fine. No compile erros. No errors in logs. No startup problems. No performance differences :-)
A few interesting new things:
Added OpenGL 2.0 Support.
Added initial support for Xinerama + OpenGL; see APPENDIX V in the text README.
Added support for the EXT_framebuffer_object OpenGL extension.
Added NV-CONTROL support for manipulating DDC/CI settings; see the AllowDDCCI X config option in the text README.
Added support for GPU clock manipulation; see the "Coolbits" X config option documented in Appendix D.
Added support for NVIDIA Quadro G-Sync.
Added support for GeForce 6200 AGP.
Improved DPMS behavior on flatpanels.
Removed support for legacy GPUs; please see "Chapter 1. Selecting and Downloading the NVIDIA Packages for Your System" in the README for details.
Install NVIDIA OpenGL headers by default.
Please, before asking any question about nvidia driver in the forums read at least main FAQ from the README file.

Perhaps this means using the renderaccel option won't lock up my computer anymore .
edit: I've tested it with RenderAccel and it still freezes up my computer like before. Maybe it's time to part ways with my GeForce 2?
It is really interesting that they got coolbits in there along with ogl 2 support.

what about kde 3.4.1 with new driver for renderaccel?

The splash screen freezes with RenderAccel on, lol. The Arch Linux one doesn't, but the KDE one does (I don't like the Arch splash. The wombat or whatever that is on top of the Arch logo is stupid too, but that's a different discussion). I have the same problem using Gnome only it was with Firefox. Firefox would always freeze up my X. I don't think I had the problem with XFCE, but I was using the 66xx driver back then too.

I really hope they have ironed out some of the bugs with this Driver and 6600 cards like screen freezes. Had the same issue with Firefox and once and a while under Opera where the screen would lock under a page load. Did minimise it by disabling most AGP options in my systems BIOS and the issue was not just related to Linux but also happened under WindowsXP.
Still, with swappiness at 10 Doom3 and UT2004 kick under Linux compared to WindowsXP.
Leave ones footprint not in the physical world but the in the world of the mind.

Finally, 1.0-7664 is the first version since 6111 that works properly with the hp zv5200 widescreen laptop.
I get to use a new kernel again!

why do you use a thread about a topic that already exists?
it makes it harder for me to get all info about newest nvidia drivers.
please use the thread from nvidia wiki.
thanks

Isn't the original thread a bit too long and difficult to read for the others? It is for me but I can live with it :-) if you really want to merge them.
@moderators: if you think it's better to merge these nvidia threads please do it and delete this post.

@tpowa: I never knew of it's existance; haven't been to the wiki since last year. I just saw a topic and posted.
Edit: I just saw what you meant... but why was that topic in AUR requests?
