So after a system upgrade maybe a few weeks ago Amarok stopped playing mp3-files. I thought that it was some error in the packages, and started to use xmms for a while.. But i haven't seen anything about this on the forums so i guess something happened on my computer. Today i installed the newest upgrades for amarok and it didn't help at all..
When i try to play mp3s all i get is this error:
I have absolutely no idea on whats causing this error so please help me, i need to have my amarok (working)!
Execpt now when i think about it after some other upgrade i couldn't run rtorrent, it needed som library (sadly i dont remember which one) which it couldnt find alltough i had it installed, after some digging i found out that it was a symlink missing which i made and rtorrent worked after that, could i have the same problem here?
a little more info:
[root@vaxnet ~]# pacman -Qs xine

I've had this problem in the past. I think the solution was to just remove amaroks config files ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and/or ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc.

Well today i did a pacman -Syu again, and xine-lib got upgraded and everything started working again.
I wonder if it is something i did or maybe a bug in pacman that caused this error in the first place.. probably something i did.

I`ve got very similar problem, but about void-engine cause xine dissapeared.
"void-engine" claims that it cannot play MP3 files...
When I went to the Amarok modules option I found only one option -> <no output>.
Always I was using engine-xine. Removing amarokrc did not help.
This problem appeared after new update Amarok Xine engine from 1.4.5-3 to 1.4.6-1. When I went back to old amarok-engine-xine it was all right. After some pacman duties I miss-removed old engine package and after new release of amarok-base I again lost possibility to listen.
[root@skywalker tmp]# pacman -Qs amarok
local/amarok-base 1.4.6-1
amaroK - a media player for KDE
local/amarok-engine-xine 1.4.6-1
xine engine for amaroK

Anybody knows where I can find old:
amarok-engine-xine-1.4.5-3.pkg.tar.gz
amarok-base-1.4.5-3.pkg.tar.gz
to download!?
FireWatcher showes me only some non-existing links to the Arch repositories.
I`m able to solve every Linux problem, but if the music don`t play I can`t concentrate myself, I`m easy becoming mad and finally frustrated.
Help!

Had similar issues recently; it seems, however, that all needed to be removed was ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/xine-config
I also removed ~/.xine but I'm not sure if that was necesary - although I think so, since before I did that, my kmplayer with xine as backend could not play mp3 files either.
So that's that :-)
a nail that sticks out, is hammered down.
aha.

I just could solve exactly this problem by removing ~/.xine completely.

mv ~/.xine ~/.xine.backup
worked for me too.

Guys it is FAQ at amarok and has answered for various GNU/Linux distributions.
This is the solution, please stop flying away your config files.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The default in Arch seems to be GStreamer, to try the GStreamer plugins do the following:
pacman -S gstreamer0.10-plugins
If you encounter problems that are not solved with this you can try switching to Xine (recommended):
pacman -S phonon-xine
Now choose Xine in:
System Settings > Multimedia > Backend (tab)
