what is gamin and why do i need it? [solved]

Does it tell you when something drastically changes as to warn you of an attack on your system?  I would like to know.  The wiki tells you to install it when setting up xfce.

Isn't the Gamin homepage enough to understand what it does?

gamin is used to tell filesystem changes to the file manager.
If you dont install it , when you create a new file using thunar , you wont see the file until you refresh it.

I think it also shows the transfer rate and percentage complete when transfering files.

Before creating a new topic, you should search wiki and forums. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gamin

I saw that.  I also did a search.  None of which straight up told me that it was required for thunar to see files instantly, or for it to show transfer rates.  Perhaps they should just add something like that to the xfce wiki instead of having a very technical explanation.  Sure I understand what the technical explanation means now, but before I wasn't quite sure what that was implying.
