[Solved] Very slow internet initialization during boot

Hi,

I have some strange issue while booting system. Network connection is initializing very long and after that, status is 'FAIL', but after loading KDE or other X - network working fine. This is my DAEMONS line from /etc/rc.conf:

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond dbus wicd fam hal @alsa @pulseaudio kdm)

Probably I have sth wrong here, but since this is my first Arch install - I don't know what exactly. Any ideas?

Thanks in advice!

Best,
Mateusz

You need to disable network by putting an exclamation point in front of it.  If you haven't done that, I assume you haven't read the wiki article on wicd https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wicd and there might be other changes you need to make too.

Re: [Solved] Very slow internet initialization during boot

One other thing that might be worth noting if you are just starting with wicd is that there isn't (as of the last time I used  it) an easy way to connect to WPA enterprise connections (like larger universities or other places where everyone has their own account and password) and you have to mess around with the text files to get it to work. (I don't actually remember how to do this *sheepish*) but I thought it would be worth pointing it out in case it becomes an issue for you in the future.

Honestly, I can't connect to network at my uni. I don't really know why. I need to load certificate (two files, one is *.pem) but it doesn't work, even if I will use instructions from uni website (just loading via wicd, not openssl).

Try netcfg. I think it's way better than wicd plus it works for me at the University.
