I've started to develop a Drupal website that could potentially replace (or enhance) this section of the Arch BBS. Projects can be contributed by users and tagged accordingly to allow projects to be found more easily.
If anyone thinks that this has potential, feel free to check out what I have here: http://arch-contrib.aghdam.org/. Registration is open, so you can create an account and submit a project of your own. (I've added dwm and st as test projects).
So far I have a very simple proof of concept--something I've only worked on for a couple of hours.
Feedback is very welcome.

I'm new to this sort of thing and genuinely curious:
What does it have that the AUR doesn't?
From what I gather it's
* collaboration
* no _need_ to supply a PKGBUILD (though that could probably implemented on your site as a feature?)
* uploading of a screenshot
Any more?
P.S.:
More possible subcategories could be acpi, laptop or power for anything related to acpi management, laptop adjustments or power consumption analyzation/modification.

I meant for it to be more of a supplement of the "Community Contributions" thread that this is actually posted in. Occasionally I'll browse through to see if there is anything I'd find interesting, but rarely find anything because of the lack of organization. My main goal is to provide some type of website that would give structure to the content in the Community Contributions section of the forums.
As you mentioned the AUR, it would actually be very easy to just link to the AUR (since most people would likely prefer to download w/ yaourt or something similar instead of from a source tarball).
Thanks for the suggestions for categories (I actually just copied them right from the AUR).

This is a great idea.. Thanks for starting this ryanaghdam.. Even I found it difficult to browse through the community contributions thread.. Organizing the content at a single place, where we can search based on categories is a great thing.. The vote up and vote down are welcome bonus additions that will bubble up the most useful contributions to the top..
Can users edit the content on that site? I saw options to add comment to a project page (and even create a new project page), but not wiki like editing..
Also, can we have the option to sort the listing based on project name or the popularity (no. of votes), etc

You're right, I consider kinda hard to discover new software, even if this community and the open source one in general are full of wonderful programs and ideas: in fact, your idea is a really nice one

Either would work. Initially, I thought of having it more like a wiki, but then decided it might be better to let people edit only their own projects (or maybe users of a certain level). I haven't really thought very much about this specifically, so input is helpful.

@ryanaghdam, I like wikis, but I am yet to see a wiki where I can categorise these projects, vote for/against them, filter them and sort them, etc.. Wiki is useful for static information. The main advantage with wiki is anyone (community) being able to update the pages..
People who add project pages may become disinterested later.. Or maybe somebody else is more knowledgeable on that project than the person who started the page.. In all such cases, wiki would make more sense (as it is better to go through good content, than to scan through comments for the information)..
I would say categorise, search, vote, sort, etc are all important for this community contributions site.. Isn't there a wiki that can accommodate all of these? If not drupal it is then..
These are just my thoughts though..

@vinayv, excellent points. I've adjusted the permissions so that any user who is logged in can edit projects so it's more like a Wiki.
