Binary package for VTK

Hello,

I am building a binary package for VTK (both stable and cvs versions), and I would like some advice for it.
There are two scenarios of building the package(s):
1. The VTK package can be a complete build of VTK with support for C++, Java, Python and Tcl/Tk.
Even though, it is not necessary to install python, j2sdk and tcl/tk to use
vtk.
If a user needs to use the python, java, and/or tcl/tk modules, he/she can
install the required packages separately.
The only caveat with the complete build (data, examples and documentation are
included) is that it requires almost 80 MB of space.

2. The second scenario is to provide individual packages for each module
(i.e. libvtk, vtk-python, vtk-tcl and vtk-java), the data files, examples and
documentation (i.e. vtk-doc, vtk-data and vtk-examples) and create a group vtk
to allow complete installation.

Please let me know what you think.
Thanks in advance

Re: Binary package for VTK

i vote for nr 2,
arch users in general seems to like as much choice as possible,

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

Re: Binary package for VTK

For now there are three packages: vtk (c++, python, tcl, java), vtk-data, and vtk-doc. All the builds are from the latest vtk stable release. I will upload the packages to the arch ftp server for testing.
If in the meantime anyone would like to test the packages, I could send to him/her all the required files.

Thanks

Re: Binary package for VTK

you mean you managed to have vtk building from sources and running on arch???? wow, cool! last time i tried, i was very unsuccessfull providing all the dependencies. please let us (especially me ;-) ) know how you did that (PKGBUILD's)

The impossible missions are the only ones which succeed.

Re: Binary package for VTK

I have uploaded the files to the arch ftp server (incoming folder).
If you want you can send me an e-mail (konstantinos.pac@gmail.com) with arch vtk as the subject or something like that, and I can e-mail all the files required to build vtk from sources.
