[SOLVED]cannot detect external monitor (Arch on aluminum body macbook)

I can't seem to find my mini display port.

It seems others have been successful, alas I am not.  I am attempting to attach an external monitor on my aluminum body macbook running Arch, but the mini display port seems to be evading detection.

Re: [SOLVED]cannot detect external monitor (Arch on aluminum body macbook)

If you are using the nVidia proprietary drivers, you should configure multi-monitor stuff with their tool.  You should be able to start it with "nvidia-settings".  I think you can only use xrandr for that if you are using the open source drivers.

Re: [SOLVED]cannot detect external monitor (Arch on aluminum body macbook)

Is the mini display port even supposed to be a separate "VGA compatible controller"? I thought multi-monitor displays on Macbooks were dualhead setups with one video card.

Great things come in tar.xz packages.

Re: [SOLVED]cannot detect external monitor (Arch on aluminum body macbook)

Thank you for the suggestion tom5760, when I started nvidia-settings I found the monitor actually was being detected - and I was able to select it, and adjust a handful of settings that are going to suit me fine for now.
