Re: Card reader problem with kernel 2.6.38.6-1

I have the same problem.
once I insert my SD card (sometimes I could read the files in it for a few seconds), the laptop freezes completely.
some info here:

I wonder how long we have to wait before we can update to the new kernel with pacman -Syu. Being a newbie, it's difficult for me to use the packages provided above...

It's good to know that reverting the suspected patch actually helped someone else too. There's still some doubt about that in the linux-mmc mailing list.

2.6.39 is not released yet, so it won't be tomorrow ;-)

Lavande wrote:

It's very easy. Just download the package corresponding to your architecture (i686/x86_64) and install it using pacman -U

edit:
both download links are here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 96#p934996
Please leave a (dis)confirming message for the devs to know if it fixed your problem. Thanks.

Re: Card reader problem with kernel 2.6.38.6-1

Thanks a lot, laloch. It now works perfectly here on my laptop big_smile
BTW: To my surprise, after using your kernel, my system boots much faster than before! How did you do that?

That's very unlikely. The only difference between the kernels should be just the one commit. It's rather a new version of initscripts or mkinitcpio, so the credit goes to the Arch developers smile

Oh, and thanks for the feedback.

2.6.38.6-2 is currently in the repository, is that the fixed version?

Re: Card reader problem with kernel 2.6.38.6-1

laloch - This patched worked perfect for me. Thanks!

Before this, when I plugged in any SD card I just got the following error message after a long delay.

mmcblk0: probe of mmc0: failed with error -22

My laptop is an ASUS & the card reader is;

JMicron Technology Corp. SD/MMC Host Controller (rev 80)
