Firefox & Thunderbird crashes

Hi,

I've been having quite a serious problem with firefox and thunderbird. Whenever I try to open a menu (on the menubar/bookmarks toolbar/right click) the program crashes. It also crashes when I press the back button. The flash plugin also crashes when playing video from the BBC or Youtube, with firefox then crashing when the page is refreshed to sort our flash.

has anyone got any ideas whats going on?

Re: Firefox & Thunderbird crashes

Have you tried running with a clean profile?

Re: Firefox & Thunderbird crashes

For the menu problem, try switching GTK themes. Also your Flash player is up-to-date right?

Re: Firefox & Thunderbird crashes

I'm using openbox so I allowed it to run the gnome-settings-daemon on startup, which seems to make no difference. I then tried logging into Gnome itself which failed. Could this be a GTK problem?

Re: Firefox & Thunderbird crashes

it could be anything. you didn't post any backtrace. not even pacman -Qm to see what non stock packages you are using

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Firefox & Thunderbird crashes

Solved it. Turns out my pulseaudio installation was somehow causing anything involving sound to crash (except mplayer), removing it solved everything except for the fact that to use the new Gnome-shell pulseaudio is needed. As Gnome is not my main desktop this is not a problem but could be for someone else.
