Hi everyone,
I installed xcb-util-all from AUR which installs the following packages (I had to separate it into two different packages to bypass an error):
package1:
http://xcb.freedesktop.org/dist/xcb-util-0.3.8.tar.gz
package2:
http://xcb.freedesktop.org/dist/xcb-uti … 3.8.tar.gz
http://xcb.freedesktop.org/dist/xcb-uti … 3.8.tar.gz
http://xcb.freedesktop.org/dist/xcb-uti … 3.8.tar.gz
http://xcb.freedesktop.org/dist/xcb-uti … 3.8.tar.gz
And now all window managers installed (Awesome, openbox, gnome) complain about missing libxcb-util.so.0.
I tried reverting back to xcb-util-0.3.6 but I still get an error about the missing libxcb-util.so.0.
Do you guys know which package contains this shared library? I tried re-installing a bunch of packages but cannot get to launch any window manager. I have to launch xterm and then chrome from the terminal!! It's not that convenient!
Thank you!

congratulation, you found out that xcb-util 0.3.8 is not binary compatible
you have to remove all packages you installed from aur xcb-util* and install xcb-util from extra
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

I had already tried that, and still libxcb-util.so.0 cannot be found!

well, that is nowhere our repos and i think you have packages that you recompiled against xcb-util-all.
find them with LD_DEBUG=files exec gnome-session for example then pacman -Qo file and replace them with packages from extra

Thanx I'll try that right away!

Thank you very much, I now have a functional window manager to work with!!
Actually I had a version of startup-notification libraries camping in "/usr/local/lib/" which needed libxcb-util.so.0
I just removed them and re-installed startup-notification and xcb-util-0.3.6.
Thank you very much!
