Low sample rate on wacom tablet

Since I last updated, my wacom graphire cte-440 tablet appears to be sampling input at a lower rate so that writing in xournal looks choppy. I've tried downgrading to the previous version of xf86-input-wacom-0.10.8-2 as opposed to the newest version xf86-input-wacom-0.10.9-1 but there is no change. As I move around the pointer using the pen I can sense the "lower fps" so to speak compared to when I use mouse input.

Is there a way to configure the sampling rate? Any other help would be appreciated.

Re: Low sample rate on wacom tablet

When I log out of gnome back to the console I see some error messages related to wacom:

(gnome-settings-daemon:14510): wacom-plugin-WARNING **: Error in setting "Wacom Pressure Threshold" for "Wacom Graphire 4x5 stylus"
(gnome-settings-daemon:14510): wacom-plugin-WARNING **: Error in setting "Wacom Pressure Threshold" for "Wacom Graphire 4x5 eraser"

waiting for X server to shut down (EE) wcmEvent: Wacom driver can not get Current Screen ID
(EE) Please remove wacom tool from the tablet and bring it back again.

Heres a video of what the input looks like in xournal

Any ideas?
