Thinkpad R61 Battery Woes

My background: I'm an Arch Linux newbie, but I have some experience with gentoo and ubuntu.
Problem:
1. Batteries do not seem to charge / discharge since install

Is thinkpad_acpi loaded? But frankly, even if it wasn't, you should not get those bad stats from acpi.

Maybe the battery electronics went overboard. I'd check /proc/acpi/battery from a LiveCD (though not the one you installed Arch with).
If you get good readings, all is well because it's just a problem with the software.
In that case, I'd
1. upgrade the system (2.6.34?)
2. install tp_smapi
3. maybe see if thinkpad-acpi has related options you can enable.

I dont know how to install from the AUR yet. I'm looking into it now.

Ok now im a little confused

I update my system:

[francis@squishmitten ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu

it says im up to date

I specifically try to update the kernel:

[francis@squishmitten ~]$ sudo pacman -S kernel26

As jasonwryan said, you should check your mirrors. The server you're getting your packages from seems very outdated.

I'd suggest you download the official mirrorlist or create one here, where you can choose e.g. only mirrors from your country that are up-to-date.

Ok so my mirrors were out of date, that is confirmed. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on that one. I was using the mirror list from the livecd, I didn't expect them to be out of date.

Re: Thinkpad R61 Battery Woes

I deleted those files that were blocking the update, and stuff worked just fine.

1. I have the newest kernel
2. the system is actually up to date
3. tp_smapi is installed from AUR
4. tp_smapi is added to my rc.conf under modules

however, my batteries still aren't working.

I checked out my lappy with a Linux Mint LiveCD, and my batteries work great on that. Any ideas?
