However, they did until I updated to the newer kernel yesterday. I was able to change my brightness even while Arch was booting -- it all worked out of the box. Not anymore, though, as the media keys don't even register scancodes.

I'm using a thinkpad edge 14", so the media keys are accessed by pressing a function key and then the corresponding F# key.

Any ideas on how I could get this working again? It's like I'm staring at a lightbulb.

Edit: Actually, they don't even work when I downgrade my kernel, leading me to believe that it's something else.

Did you update anything else when you updated the kernel?

I think kbd might have been updated as well.

Have you tried downgrading kbd to a previous version to see if the problem goes away?
