The problem is most obvious when reading man pages in xterm. After each action that causes the window to be redrawn (like page down) it can be clearly seen how the redrawing is not instant. It takes only a tenth of a second but the flickering can be clearly seen. Another example is wget which refreshes its output continuously: the window flickers on each update.
In contrast, urxvt redraws its window without any flickering.
Anything I can do about it?

While that indeed sounds familiar and I would love to have it fixed, it is not what this thread is intended to be about.
Here, I was talking about the time it takes to redraw the screen in xterm versus urxvt. The former to be so slow that it is flickering.
EDIT: Some update seems to have fixed this issue.
