Incorrect semaphore state with dm-crupt/LUKS root on luksOpen

I'm getting errors just like those found HERE and HERE when using a custom 2.6.39 kernel. This doesn't happen with 2.6.38.2 or the current stock Arch kernel (2.6.38.7 as of 6/2/2011). The error is:

semid 32768: semop failed for cookie 0xd4d5ea6: incorrect semaphore state
Failed to set a proper state for notification semaphore identified by cookie value 223174310 (0xd4d5ea6) to initialize waiting for incoming notifications.

Though... on subsequent reboots I've noticed that the first number (32768) and the cookie value (0xd4d5ea6) change, so I'm guessing they aren't specific errors. I just rebuilt a custom 2.6.38.7 kernel with the same 2.6.38.2 config (using make oldconfig and accepting the default options for the few changes that there were (mostly N)), and I get the error.

Any suggestions? More information I can provide?
