[SOLVED] Vmware install

Hello all,

Trying to install VMWare workstation, following this page:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vmware

however, I get lost around this section of the page:   https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vm … nd_patches

I'm not sure if I have to perform those steps, and if I do, I'm not sure the exact way to do it.

Also, when I get to this step:

vmware-modconfig --console --install-all

I get a message saying GCC and Kernel Headers must be installed.  I installed Base-devel and gcc, but when I check the packages page on this site for the headers, they are flagged out of date.

Can anyone help me or guild me in the right direction?

Re: [SOLVED] Vmware install

kernel26-headers 2.6.38.7-1 are the current ones - install them and try again. They're flagged out of date because the next version is already out (and already is in [testing]).

Re: [SOLVED] Vmware install

ok, thanks.  I assume just installing kernel26-headers will also update the headers when they are moved from testing to core?

You will need to 'pacman -Syu' and rebuild all the required apps.

Re: [SOLVED] Vmware install

Just installed the headers and ran

vmware-modconfig --console --install-all

everything seemed to build.  I will try and launch VMWare Workstation when I get home today.  I will mark this thread solved and if need be, will open another thread.

Thanx again.

EDIT:  Ok, just did a "yaourt -Syua" to update everything, and I'm seeing something I never saw before:

I've never seen the "Foreign packages: \ 3 / 3"  where can I find out what that is?
