[SOLVED] Udev General Protection Fault on ath_attach when !ath5k

I used to have

MODULES=(!ath5k ath_pci …)

in rc.conf. Then I upgraded and switched to the new blacklisting, ie.:

MODULES=(ath_pci …)

and

blacklist ath5k

in /etc/modprobe.d/my.conf

On rebooting, I got to the Udev part, then saw a General Protection Fault and a call trace with something about ath_attach. Then it would just stay there forever, until I hit the reboot button.

I booted up a live-cd, emptied my MODULES array, and rebooted, then got the same Udev general protection fault etc., but it continued after 30 seconds. When I was logged in, I tried

modprobe --first-time ath_pci

which just hanged, not doing anything.

Then I removed the blacklist ath5k too (ie. no mention of atheros anywhere in my configs, also switched ath0 to wlan0 in my netcfg scripts), and now everything works as before!

Has madwifi ath_pci been deprecated or something?
