Hi, I changed from Gentoo to archlinux.
From Gentoo I like the nice colored bash prompt, unfortunatly Arch doesnt have this at default so I googled a little bit and created with "dircolors -p > /etc/DIR_COLORS" a File for the colors and copied the gentoo .bashrc into the root dir.
But I still dont have any colors by logging on.. what am I doing wrong?
Regards

No, tried this too. Could it be that colors are disabled?
There only colors by the init scripts and by vim

The link bohoomil posted worked for me - both for root and the user - and I don't recall enabling colors or anything like that.
Does
ls --color
show colored output?

No, still grey/white

Have you set USECOLOR="yes" in your rc.conf?

Is set too, could it be that I dont have a colored console because of UTF-8?

Are you using the default Arch configs? Maybe some stuff you migrated from gentoo gets in the way.

@karol
yes, i just migrated the gentoo .bashrc, but i tried also the .bashrc from /etc/skel so the default and added the dir volor function, both aren't working

I found the problem...
The Problem was that because of the missing .bas_profile, bash didnt automaticly source .bashrc. so the colour settings didnt load.
Now everything works well how it should with gentoo .bashrc and the .bash_profile from /etc/skel

Please add [solved] to the topic's title.
