Arch crashing continously since latest update [SOLVED]

Hey-

since my latest pacman -Syu Arch doesn't behave too friendly. Sometimes it crashes randomly,
though it crashes immediately when I try to start Virtual Box, or try to watch some (HD) video. I get kicked out of Openbox and
get back into X and well, I don't really know what to do with the input. I get something like

[359.2141201] [<ffffffffff.811...]

and so on. It's weird because I can still move the mouse cursor and it even changes its shape etc., as if I'm still on the desktop.

When I start Arch it already behaves weirdly. First I get the message that Syslog-NG is deprecated, and than I get about hundreds of
lines like:

[26. -----] - [31. ------]

which I never got before.

Here you can see what got upgraded:

I know this decription of my problem most likely sounds rather clumsy, but any help would be
very much appreciated.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things changed since the latest kernel-upgrade (2.6.39) Arch / Openbox ist not crushing anymore,
and all those weird lines are not there anymore when I boot / shutdown the laptop. Though not everything
is working, like mplayer

mplayer: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by /usr/lib/liblirc_client.so.0)

and Virtualbox can't get to install the latest virtualbox-guest-modules, though I guess this problem will be
solved within the next VB update.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the latest round of updates, everything is up and working again, mplayer included. Man, that was fast.
All my love to the guys maintaining Arch.
