Unable to mount/use external LUKS disk with cryptsetup

I'm trying to mount an external disk - that I originally formatted with the Ubuntu disk formatter - on Archlinux. The file system is encrypted but I couldn't say what kind of encryption. I do know the passphrase.

[root@desktom-archlinux ~]# cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sdb2 external
Enter passphrase for /dev/sdb2: <my passphrase>
