This has bugged me for ages too. It gets in the way of mouse scrolling, and it's such a useless feature.

Just in case someone else stumbles upon this post, the command to disable it is
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/mousewheel_rollup -s false
Now in Archlinux wiki too: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xf … ow_roll-up

It doesn't look like Compiz respects that setting when running on Xfce. I couldn't find anything in the Compiz settings to disable that behavior for the scroll wheel, only the keyboard, and Google doesn't seem to bring up any results. Does anybody know how to disable this in Compiz, or is it something that's so "useful" that you can't disable it?

@affect: thanks!
@akb825: Compiz replaces Xfwm as a standalone windowmanager so it ignores xfce-specific settings. Settings are generally not shared between desktop DE/WM, apart from a few like menu-items, Maybe in the future (freedesktop.org) they will be.

I understood that, I was just wondering if anybody knew if there was a way to disable it in Compiz, since the Compiz control panel only exposes a setting for a keyboard shortcut to control shading.
I hope that freedesktop.org movement picks up speed, though. Maybe fonts in QT apps will finally look the same as GTK+ apps...

Go to "Settings Editor -> xfwm4 -> Uncheck option "mousewhell_rollup""

The solution has already been given in the course of this thread, and you are replying to a thread that hasn't seen new activity in 6 years!
Closing.
