Hello fellow archers,
I tried setting up Xorg on my brand new 64-bit netbook and I got the following errors:
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/modules.dep: No such file or directory
(EE) No devices detected
Fatal server error:
no screens found
I should also add that it is intel atom n570 with intel 3150 graphic card on board which, according to intel website, is supported. Also, the file exists. I tried using configuration file instead of autodetection of devices (as described in arch wiki), but it changed nothing.
When doing X -configure the errors I get are:
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/modules.dep: No such file or directory
Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no clue how to solve that.

The current kernel is 2.6.39 - updating would be my first step...

I only have wireless connection where I am now, so I need to chroot from ubuntu to arch (I don't run X from inside chroot;) ). However,
pacman -Suy
yields
there is nothing to do
. Do I need to compile my own kernel?

Not yet. I'd try an up-to-date mirror first

Did you reboot after updating the kernel?
Offline
@karol: I rebooted at least 10 times since.
@jasonwryan: I chose
http://mirror.devnu11.net/archlinux/
(which does not exist in mirrorlist by default, weird) but pacman responds in the same manner.
Also, uname -r gives:
2.6.32-28-generic
//EDIT: Uname output.

Uncomment a couple of other active mirrors and
pacman -Syyu
Offline
No luck (I have uncommented/added top10). You do know I am running 64-bit version?

Yes. Paste your pacman.conf for us to take a look at...

My pacman.conf should be here: http://pastebin.com/irH60FYF
And mirrorlist here: http://pastebin.com/SmDHhJgf

Last card I have. Paste
pacman -Syu --debug

It's longer than my terminal cache, so here you go: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1106133/out
Dropbox doesn't respond in my case, so here is a link to scribd: http://www.scribd.com/doc/57905739/Out
I can always get kernel-netbook or zen-kernel, it shouldn't take long.
//EDIT: Scribd link
//EDIT: A note that there was an edit

I'm stumped. According to pacman you are up-to-date. But for x64 in Testing your kernel should be 2.6.39.1-1

That's just a Pauli effect;)
Should I continue and get a kernel from aur?

My sense would be to try and solve the underlying issue. Your machine isn't up-to-date and--for a rolling release--that is bad.

However, I guess we have no idea as to what is happening. Of course if you need any of my files, feel free to request.

mkawalec, did you install the -lts kernel before, and/or have multiple kernels listed in grub?
ᶘ ᵒᴥᵒᶅ
Offline
No, the only thing I did was to do
pacman -Suy
after install and to install Xorg. And I have just one kernel in grub.
Offline
You know it is Syu, right?
Also, try the manual method for checking a mirror https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mi … ror_status
Find one that has the current Testing kernel and sync with that...
Offline
It doesn't really matter, does it?
I will try getting the 'right' mirrors after I am done with compiling the kernel, but I am quite sure it will not help, as I already have most up to date mirrors in my mirrorlist.
//EDIT: Still up to date, according to pacman.

This is a stretch, but it almost sounds like you accidentally installed some Ubuntu updates to your Arch partition, or vice versa..

That's impossible, I wasn't updating this ubuntu, as it is a live-usb. Maybe I could delete all the data pacman has and Suy again?

In that case i would download the latest Archboot ISO and install from scratch.

But that's exactly what I did (twice to be exact) - I have installed arch from scratch and got the above in both cases.

uname -r should definitely not look like this:
Also, uname -r gives:
2.6.32-28-generic
Looks like a Ubuntu kernel in your Arch install. uname -r should return something like 2.6.39-ARCH.
