When ran in the terminal "glibc detected *** skype: corrupted double-linked list" is displayed upon crash. If I keep opening skype eventually it stops crashing. I am running 64bit if that makes a difference.

What helped me was creating a folder called "Logs" in .Skype. As odd as it seems, after creating the folder it started running stable again.
cd ~/.Skype
mkdir Logs
skype &
