Changing ALSA's defualt sound card?

I have two "sound cards" in my box, the one that came with the mother board and one i bought for myself.  ALSA detects and outputs to them fine, but other programs just stick to the first availible one (the mother board one) vs the one i installed.  How can I change the default sound device system wide?

Also, is there any time server option to sync with during bootup or something similar?

Go into the bios's of the computer a disable the one on the motherboard. Then it will no longer be detected and the one that you added with be installed.
