When I download an html file, I would like to click open file in firefox and have it be displayed, however, when I set the action to the firefox bin file, i get a prompt for a user select. Is there someway to set the open action to a command, since if i type "firefox file.html" in a shell, it loads it fine, i was thinking that i could set the command to "firefox tempfile.html" thanks.

He's talking about opening an HTML file on the filesystem in firefox. Like if you have /home/cooldude/myfile.html, how do you open it from the command line or a desktop action?
I thought 'firefox file.html' would do the trick. Maybe you need to pass a command line option... man firefox may help.

No no, "firefox file.html" does work! But when I specify in firefox to open firefox whenever an html file is downloaded, I get a prompt to select which firefox user to use.

yeah - that's because firefox thinks you want to open a new instance, i think some extention might be able to help you there
